Cake Topper Color Trends We're Loving This Year

Sage and Dusty Sage Green

Soft sage green has held on as a favorite for a couple of years now, and we don't see it fading soon. It pairs beautifully with natural wood cake stands, dried florals, and neutral gowns, which is probably why it's still the most requested color for wedding toppers coming through our studio.

We're seeing it paired with warm ivory and a touch of gold for a look that feels organic without veering too rustic. It's also a color that ages well in photos, unlike some of the brighter pastels from a few years back that can look a little dated in an album a decade from now. Sage works just as well on a modern minimalist cake as it does on a rustic wood-stand setup, which is part of why it keeps showing up across such different wedding styles.

Terracotta and Warm Clay Tones

Terracotta has moved well beyond fall weddings this year. We're painting it into birthday toppers, baby shower figures, and even graduation caps, usually paired with cream, mustard, or a deep forest green. It has a warmth to it that feels a little more grounded than the pastels that dominated the last few seasons.

It also plays especially well with mismatched vintage-style china or a dessert table styled around dried grasses and pampas, which is probably why we're seeing it requested for such a wide range of celebrations rather than just autumn events.

Butter Yellow and Soft Cream

Butter yellow has quietly become one of our most-requested colors this year, especially for baby showers and spring birthdays. It reads as cheerful without being overly bright, and it photographs beautifully against both white and chocolate cakes.

We're also seeing it requested for gender-neutral baby showers specifically, since it feels warm and celebratory without leaning pink or blue.

Metallic Gold Accents

Gold never really goes out of style, but this year we're using it more sparingly, as an accent rather than the whole topper. A gold-dipped edge, a delicate gold script banner, or a single gold detail like a crown or number tends to look more intentional than an all-metallic piece.

We're also seeing more requests for a single gold monogram or initial rather than a full name, which keeps the look clean while still feeling personal.

Bold Jewel Tones for Milestone Birthdays

For milestone birthdays especially, we're seeing a real appetite for color that doesn't apologize for itself: emerald, sapphire, and deep plum. These tones photograph beautifully under candlelight and give a 30th, 40th, or 50th birthday cake a little more drama than a pastel palette would.

We've also had a few requests for near-black tones on milestone birthdays this year, paired with a single metallic accent, for a look that feels closer to a black-tie affair than a typical birthday party.
